Primary schools' merger sparks huge backlash

PUBLIC objections continue to roll in over controversial plans to merge two North Tyneside primary schools.

Analysis from North Tyneside Council shows 54 objections have been registered to proposals to close Hazlewood Primary School and merge with neighbouring Greenfield Primary.

Only five supportive comments have so far been logged, between December 4 and December 22.

If the plans are approved by council chiefs next Monday, the merger would be scheduled for a staggered completion by September, 2028.

The council justified this to attempt to keep siblings together, act against a bulge in year groups and to help with any potential building works.
