New jail sentence given to paedophile

A Northumberland truck driver who sexually assaulted a sleeping woman went on to commit child sex offences years later.

Steven Winters sexually assaulted a woman as she slept, with the incident having a "profound impact" on his victim.

But years after the assault, Winters' offending escalated further when he sexually assaulted a child in separate incidents.

The 47-year-old has now been jailed for a total of eight years.

On Wednesday, Winters, of Blyth, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court via link from HMP Holme House to be sentenced for the assault on the woman, to which he pleaded guilty before his trial was due to take place.
