I'll stop currying favour...twins are who they are

"What's this?," Thomas enquired of the bright green coriander I'd added to his white rice.

- RICHARD IRVINE

Normally, I wouldn't go so experimental, but we had a bunch of the stuff clogging up the fridge and I wanted to use it before it turned brown.

I explained it was a delicious healthy herb, popular in India. He viewed it with suspicion, while attempting to pick it out of his rice.

His sister always adopts a surprisingly supportive stance to her brother whenever it comes to refusing healthy food and agreed it hindered her enjoyment of the plain carbohydrate.

Eventually, they badgered me into toasting more white pitta bread since they were ‘starving’, but unable to eat any of the rice accompanying the bland curry.

In a situation like this, I like to look to myself for answers and felt if I'd refused their demands for pitta, they'd eat the rice. Maybe I needed to be tougher, threaten starvation, shout or beg.
