MAGPIES STILL ‘MANAGING MINUTES’ OF KEY PLAYERS
NEWCASTLE United boss Eddie Howe has argued the Magpies’ preseason results should be judged fairly with a clutch of players coming back from long-term injuries.
Club captain Jamaal Lascelles played his first minutes since March 2024 after knee issues while Sven Botman was also just getting back to match fitness last spring when the season ended without a consistent run of 90 minute outings.
Both Joelinton, who missed the end of last season with a knee injury, and Alexander Isak were also missing during the 4-0 defeat at Celtic as the Magpies are “managing minutes” of key senior stars.
