ALCOHOL READING 'OFF THE SCALE' AFTER POLICE STOP
A DRINK-driver was a staggering five times the limit when he was spotted mounting the central reservation and swerving across lanes on a busy North East road during rush hour.
Thomas Monkhouse gave a shocking reading of 171mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath one of the highest the court had seen when he was pulled over by police.
Magistrates heard that a concerned civilian spotted the 38-year-old travelling along the Coast Road in his Skoda when he suddenly mounted the central reservation, narrowly missed the barrier, then crossed three lanes of traffic.
The witness contacted the police and gave the vehicle's registration when it continued to be driven “erratically”, prosecutors said.

Is cat parvo on the rise?
There's been talk where we live in the north of England of an upsurge of cases of a virus disease in cats called parvo. I thought this was a dog disease. Is this anything to worry about? Our two five-year-old cats were fully vaccinated as kittens but not since.
