Howe has applauded the Newcastle United faithful for lifting him and his Toon stars after their dismal Wear-Tyne derby experience. From the offset against Fulham last night the 50,000 Geordie fans in attendance did not transmit any lingering negativity from the loss on Wearside. Instead, Howe - who watched on as a banner of himself and his skipper Bruno Guimaraes - was unfurled at the Gallowgate End - heard his name chanted from the opening few seconds.The head coach admitted that the response from the supporters had been a major factor in the 2-1 win over the Cottagers.
