Winter action plan chalked out to tackle air pollution

With winter approaching, Delhi's air quality concerns have prompted the government to roll out a strategic Winter Action Plan aimed at curbing pollution levels in the national capital.

Winter action plan chalked out to tackle air pollution

On Wednesday, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai unveiled the comprehensive plan under the theme "Mil Kar Chale, Pradushan Se Ladein", which calls for collective action against pollution.

The Winter Action Plan outlines 21 specific focus areas to tackle the rising pollution levels. Addressing the media, Minister Gopal Rai announced that a ban on firecrackers would be strictly enforced this year once the notification is issued. He added that the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) would be implemented in stages, with 588 teams already formed to prevent the open burning of garbage, a major contributor to air pollution.

"We will encourage workfrom-home policies and voluntary reductions in private vehicle usage. If needed, the odd-even road rationing scheme will be reintroduced," Rai stated. Additionally, the government is exploring the option of inducing artificial rain, which could help in reducing airborne pollutants during peak pollution periods.
