Bihar is the only prominent state in north -eastern India that is yet to have a BJP Chief Minister.
True the party has been in power but its role has been that of a supporting one and it hasn't been able to make its mark beyond the post of deputy chief minister. That is indeed strange, given the fact that Bihar is predominantly hindi speaking; and when we speak of the two cowbelt states, apart from Uttar Pradesh it is Bihar that comes to mind. Given the fact that the BJP has managed to puta chief minister in place in the North East as well as the state of Orissa, one wonders why Bihar is holding out. During the last assembly polls the BJP did make a significant improvement in its tally winning 74 seats and emerging as the second largest party (the RJD won 75) .
