US lawmakers propose easing Green Card wait for Indians

In a move advocating for the rights of Indian immigrants, 56 US lawmakers, led by Congressmen Raja Krishnamoorthi and Larry Bucshon, have called on the Biden administration to expedite the processing of Green Cards for applicants from India.

The lawmakers’ request comes amid criticism of the 195-year waiting period for Indian applicants, which they argue has resulted in an unending state of limbo.

The group of bipartisan lawmakers has addressed their plea to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. They suggest that by marking all employment-based visa applications in the Bureau of Consular Affairs’ published Employment-Based Visa Bulletin as “current”, the administration could provide much-needed relief to highskilled employment-based visa holders.
