Pres. Wickremesinghe Proposes Borderless Tourism for BIMSTEC

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has proposed transforming the BIMSTEC area into a “borderless tourism” region to harness the vast potential of the seven-member grouping.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 67th annual convention of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) - one of India’s oldest travel-related associations - Wickremesinghe also discussed the progress made by the cash-strapped island nation since the unprecedented economic crisis of last year.
The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is a regional alliance consisting of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, and Bhutan.
