Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Thoothukudi in TamilNadu, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth approximately Rs 17,300 crore. Addressing the gathering, PM Modi emphasized the significance of these projects in fostering the state’s progress, highlighting them as integral to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation. He underscored the principle of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’ (One India, Best India) in the context of these initiatives, signifying unity and excellence in national development efforts.
One of the pivotal projects inaugurated was the Outer Harbor Container Terminal at V O Chidambaranar Port, aimed at establishing a transshipment hub on the east coast, thus enhancing India’s global trade competitiveness. Additionally, PM Modi inaugurated initiatives to facilitate the transformation of the port into the country's first Green Hydrogen Hub Port, including a desalination plant and hydrogen production facilities, reflecting a commitment to sustainable development and clean energy solutions.
Further, the Prime Minister launched India's maiden indigenous green hydrogen fuel cell inland waterway vessel, marking a significant stride towards embracing renewable energy sources and aligning with the nation's net-zero emission goals.
