Institutional invest in housing jumps 5-fold to $433 mn: Report

In the first half of 2023, institutional investments the housing and industrial & warehousing sectors in India experienced significant growth, according to a report by Colliers India.

During this period, investments in the housing segment surged nearly fivefold to USD 433.4 million, compared to USD 89.4 million in the same period last year. Likewise, inflows in the industrial & warehousing sector increased by 95 percent, reaching USD 350.2 million, up from USD 179.8 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The report highlights that institutional inflows of -funds include investments from various sources such as family offices, foreign corporate groups, foreign banks, proprietary books, pension funds, private equity firms, real estate fund-cum-developers, foreign-funded non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), and sovereign wealth funds.

The remarkable increase in investment inflows in the housing segment can be attributed to domestic investments. Improved housing demand, stable interest rates, and healthy affordability levels have led to a rebound in investments in residential assets.
