'India unlikely to have hyperloop trains in near future'
The Business Guardian
|November 06, 2023
India is currently not inclined to embrace hyperloop technology for ultra-high-speed trains, according to V K Saraswat, a member of NITI Aayog, as the technology remains at a “very low level” of maturity and may not be economically viable at this juncture.
-
Saraswat, who leads a committee investigating the technological and commercial feasibility of Virgin Hyperloop technology in India, also noted that foreign companies have expressed interest in introducing the technology in the country.
Hyperloop technology, conceived by Elon Musk, involves high-speed trains running in a vacuum-sealed tube. Despite the technology’s allure, Saraswat expressed reservations, stating that the offers received from foreign countries are not currently viable. He added, “They are at a very low level of maturity of technology,” and emphasized that hyperloop remains a study program. Consequently, he does not foresee hyperloop becoming a part of India’s transportation framework in the near future.
