India Rising To Save Nimisha Priya From Execution In Yemen
The Business Guardian
|July 11, 2025
Supreme Court steps in, offers final hope before execution deadline.
With less than a week left before her scheduled execution, the fate of Nimisha Priya—a nurse from Kerala convicted of murder in Yemen—hangs in the balance.
On July 10, the Supreme Court of India agreed to urgently hear a petition seeking diplomatic intervention to save her life. The hearing is scheduled for July 14, just two days before her execution, which is set for July 16.
The petition, filed by the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, has urged the court to direct the Indian government to intervene either through diplomatic channels or by facilitating the payment of diya—“blood money” under Islamic law—to the victim's family.
A bench led by Justices Sandeep Mehta and Dipankar Datta has asked the Centre to respond.
