Harjinder Dhami wins SGPC president post fourth consecutive time

The election, held on Monday in Amritsar, saw Dhami clinching 107 out of 142 total votes, while Kaur, nominated by opposition and rebel Akali Dal factions, garnered 33 votes.

Two votes were rendered invalid, solidifying Dhami's hold on leadership within the SGPC, often referred to as the "Sikh mini parliament."

The SGPC general house not only re-elected Dhami but also appointed other key officials for its executive structure.

Raghujit Singh Virk was elected as senior vice-president, Baldev Singh Kalyan as junior vice-president, and Shamsher Singh Mandwala as general secretary, marking a consolidation of SAD's influence within the SGPC.

Dhami, the candidate of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), demonstrated strong support among the house members, emphasizing continuity in leadership amidst calls for organizational reforms.

Additional appointments to the executive committee included 11 members: Harjinder Kaur, Amrik Singh Vachhoa, Surjit Singh Tugalwal, Paramjit Singh Khalsa, Surjit Singh Gari, Baldev Singh Kayampuri, Daljit Singh Bhinder, Sukh Harpreet Singh Rode, Ravinder Singh Khalsa, Jaswant Singh Purain, and Paramjit Singh Raipur.
