FROM PUNJAB'S FIELDS TO THE GATES OF IIT: THE DREAMS OF 44 GOVERNMENT SCHOOL STUDENTS
The Business Guardian
|June 06, 2025
They didn’t even know what FEE was. Today, they dream of startups, aviation, and giving their parents a life they never imagined. From remote villages and modest homes, these students from Punjab’s government schools have achieved what once seemed impossible.
Until not too long ago, 18-year-old Jaspreet Kaur from Khera Gajju village in Rajpura had never even heard of the term "JEE." She had no idea what it meant, let alone the journey it entailed.
Today, she is among the 44 students from Punjab's government schools who have successfully cracked the JEE Advanced - one of India's most challenging entrance exams and is now on her way to fulfilling her dream of studying at an IIT.
But for Jaspreet, the dream doesn't end at a prestigious degree. "I want to become an engineer and launch my own startup," she says, her eyes gleaming with hope. "I want to create something that's mine that gives back." something Sitting beside her is Prabhjot Kaur, another determined young woman with a heart full of gratitude.
"After completing my engineering from IIT, I want to join the aviation industry. But my real dream is to give my parents the most luxurious life possible.
They have struggled so much. I want to give them a world of comfort they never even asked for." Then there is Prabhpreet Singh from Patiala, whose words leave a lasting impact: "I want to do my engineering from IIT, start my own business, and settle in the USA. But more than that, I want to see the day when my parents go to any shop, pick up whatever they want, and never have to look at the price tag. I want money to stop being their concern forever." These aren't just stories. These are voices of a silent revolution taking place in Punjab's government schools where children from modest, often struggling backgrounds are not just clearing exams; they are redefining the very meaning of success.
