Election Commission & NCERT promote electoral literacy: MoU

The Election Commission and the Ministry of Education on Thursday inked a Memorandum of Understanding to introduce electoral literacy into classrooms all throughout the nation in an effort to combat youth voter apathy. The Memorandum of Understanding states that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will incorporate electoral literacy into textbooks both in their introduction and updates, and that NCERT will also urge State Education Boards and other Boards to do the same. The MoU is intended to integrate voter education and electoral literacy into the curricular framework, starting from classes 6 to 12 in all schools.

Beginning with classes 6 to 12 in all schools, this integration will also extend to the curricular framework for all colleges and universities, tailored to suit different disciplines and credited accordingly.
