AIIMS DOCTOR REPORTS 15-20% RISE IN PATIENTS WITH SEVERE RESPIRATORY ISSUES
The Business Guardian

Delhi's recent spike in air pollution has led to a surge in respiratory cases, putting increased strain on healthcare facilities and intensifying symptoms for individuals with chronic conditions

As Delhi faces a spike in air pollution, the city's healthcare facilities are witnessing a sharp increase in respiratory cases. In particular, the Pulmonology Department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi is seeing an influx of patients struggling with respiratory issues.
According to Dr. Karan Madan, Associate Professor of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at AIIMS, a significant number of individuals with chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have been reporting an intensification of their symptoms.
Dr. Madan shared that there has been a marked increase in the number of patients visiting the Outpatient Department (OPD) with worsening respiratory problems. Many patients with pre-existing conditions have found their symptoms aggravated by the current air quality levels. "We are seeing a lot more patients in the OPD now, and many are experiencing a noticeable worsening of symptoms," Dr. Madan explained. Specifically, he noted that people with asthma are experiencing more frequent and severe attacks, forcing them to seek medical attention more urgently than usual.

Maldives seeks Indian support to hit 33% renewables by 2028
The Maldives placed India at the centre of its clean energy ambitions and called for stronger regional partnerships to reduce fossil fuel dependence and enhance climate resilience.Addressing the 6th International Energy Conference in New Delhi, Maldives Minister of State for Tourism and Environment Muaviyath Mohamed said, «Unpredictable geopolitical shifts and supply chain vulnerabilities remind us that no country can ensure its energy future in isolation. We must strengthen international partnerships, share knowledge, and technology.»For the Maldives, the challenge is acute. The Minister noted that the island nation's fossil fuel imports consume 13.5 per cent of GDP, while fuel subsidies exceed USD 150 million annually.\"Being a very small and low-lying island state, our vulnerabilities are pronounced.
