Tit for tat

In a showdown worthy of prime-time drama, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has clapped back—firmly, if not a little wounded—at the Directors' Guild of the Philippines, Inc. (DGPI) for what it calls an “irresponsible” and “unfair” claim: that the Board is being used as a “cash cow.”

The DGPI might have intended it as a sharp critique of power and profit, but MTRCB isn’t having it. The agency, charged with protecting the Filipino public from harmful content (think less soap operas, more safeguarding kids from voyeurism), insists it’s not milking the industry dry. “Profit-driven?” they scoff. “Try 31 hardworking board members reviewing endless reels in the name of national values.”
