DUTERTE WELCOMES NEW YEAR SIMPLY, GRATEFUL FOR SUPPORTERS — KITTY
Tempo
|January 4, 2026
Former President Rodrigo Duterte welcomed the New Year quietly but with joy upon learning that supporters gathered for him, spending the holiday in his familiar routine of sleeping, eating, and watching television, his daughter Veronica “Kitty” Duterte said.
In an interview with vlogger Alvin & Tourism in the Netherlands, Kitty described her father as a man of habit who marked the holiday in his usual way.
“Walang bago sa kanya,” she said in the video uploaded to Facebook late Friday, Jan. 2.
“Sinabi niya, ‘Wala. Tulog, kain, TV. Yun ‘yung kasiyahan niya,” she added. Kitty also relayed her father’s New Year's greetings to Filipinos, particularly those who gathered outside the International Criminal Court (ICC) detention center in The Hague, where Duterte has been incarcerated since March 2025.
