THE cost of having a second home or leaving a house empty is set to increase across Tamworth.

- By JONATHAN SUTTON Local Democracry Reporter

New measures, set to come into force in April, mean the council tax bill for some could double or even quadruple depending on how long a property is left empty.

Currently there are 162 properties the council have deemed empty and six homes that would have the second home premium applied.

It is estimated that £163,000 in additional tax revenue could be generated, however the borough council would only retain £15,300 due to how council tax is shared with Staffordshire County Council and the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.
