RAIN halted an intriguing Surrey Championship Division Three West clash between Dorking and Esher II on Saturday.

Rain ends competitive tussle at Pixham Lane

Cricket enthusiasts at Pixham Lane were treated to a compelling contest between Dorking’s first XI and Esher’s second XI, only for the elements to ultimately have the final say.

Dorking captain Ben Rogers won the toss and elected to bowl, anticipating conditions that might favour their pace attack.

Esher, however, embraced the challenge with open arms, putting together an impressive total of 271-8 from their allotted 50 overs. The innings was anchored superbly by Anosh Malik, whose dazzling knock of 83 off just 85 deliveries featured 11 commanding boundaries and one towering six. His innings formed the bedrock of Esher's batting, finding able allies in Darren Helwick (26), Joe de la Fuente (29no), and Thomas Chandler (22).
