Eight-wicket victory gets Dorking off to a flying start
Surrey Mirror
|May 15, 2025
DORKING launched their Surrey Championship Division Three West campaign with a dominant eight-wicket win at Ashtead II, sealing the chase inside just 13.4 overs.
-
After losing the toss, Dorking were asked to bowl first on a pitch offering early assistance to the seamers.
Tom Penycate (1-11 off eight overs) set the tone with relentless accuracy, supported by Chris Weill (1-11 off 5.1), Charlie Kenway (1-9 off five), and Chris Ward (1-8 off four).
However the stand-out with the ball was captain Ben Rogers, whose probing spell earned him a well-deserved five-wicket haul (5-21 off five), dismantling Ashtead’s middle and lower order with ruthless precision and earning him the man-of-the-match award.
Despite a stubborn 31 from Sam Gale, the home side struggled for fluency, eventually being bowled out for just 102 in 37.1 overs.
