Strong bowling takes Stoke D'Abernon first and seconds to double victory
Surrey Advertiser
|June 27, 2025
STOKE D'Abernon skipper Ian Hopton made up for a second-ball duck by securing some key wickets as his team beat Old Hamptonians by 17 runs in the Surrey Championship Division Two.
-
Traffic in the Hampton Court and surrounding areas meant for a rejig of the order and, after opener Hopton went out for 0, a second wicket stand of 114 between the returning Jared Southgate (55) and Jamie Sones (66) set a great platform.
Declan Ritchie, Aarav Malhotra, and Azhar Kiani all made solid contributions towards a workable total of 244-9 after 50 overs.
In reply, Southgate and Ritchie shared the first three wickets, but it was spin duo Will Frost (3-43) and Ian Hopton (10-3-17-3) who turned the screw.
A real bonus for Stoke D'Abernon as the ground is never the kindest to spinners.
