A Hetton-le-Hole motorist left a pedestrian with serious injuries after running him over during a "momentary lapse of concentration", a court heard.

Andrew Taylor, 58, struck the man as he stepped onto a road close to the town's bus station at 10.50pm on Friday, February 14. Taylor, of Lincoln Crescent, stayed at the scene to assist and his victim, who had just left a nearby social club, was rushed to hospital.

The man suffered a bleed to the brain, three fractured vertebrae and a fractured patella.
