More young people seeking mental health support as waiting times rise

More children and young people in Sunderland are seeking-and having to wait-for mental health treatment.
NHS England figures show around 3,850 people sought help from South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust's mental health services by the end of May-including 3,715 aged 18 and under.
The data also shows around 1,450 children and teenagers were still waiting for a first care contact, with an average waiting time of 82 days since their referral.
About 1,430 were waiting for a first contact a year earlier and the average waiting time was then 60 days.
The figures also show the region's biggest mental health trust-Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust'shad 45,750 people seeking help, including about 20,665 under-18s and an average waiting time of 376 days since their referral.
The Sunderland and South Tyneside Trust also offers mental health services in Gateshead.
