More armed police deployed on operations in the region

Specialist armed officers were deployed by police in the North East conducted more firearms operations last year, new figures show.

Home Office figures show Northumbria Police conducted 373 of operations involving armed officers in the year to March-up from 332 the previous year.
It means 25 operations per 100,000 people were logged in the force area—up from 22 per 100,000 in 2023-24, but below the 28 per 100,000 average rate recorded in England and Wales.
