Harriers aiming for medal success at Stewart Park

Saturday sees the 119th staging of the North Eastern Counties Cross-Country Championships, with Stewart Park in Middlesbrough being the venue and Darlington Harriers as the host club, writes Kevin Carr.

Sunderland Harriers' Women's Team won silver at last year's North Eastern Counties Cross-Country Championships.

The undulating course has only 30 metres of elevation, however, the testing conditions underfoot may prove to be an energy sapper even for the athletes at the sharp end of the race.

The men will race 11km made up of three large 3km laps and one small 2km loop.

In the final race of the day, the women will race 8km, with two large 3km laps and one small 2km loop.

Sunderland Harriers are well represented in both the senior men's and women's races, and Team Manager, Jimmy Johnson, will be fancying the club's chances of medal success.
