Bus drivers set to stage four days of strike action
Sunderland Echo
|July 31, 2025
Bus passengers are facing disruption because of a walkout of drivers, cleaners and engineers next month.
Nearly 600 Unite members at Busways Travel Services-part of the Stagecoach North East group-have voted to strike over a dispute over pay on Monday, August 11, Tuesday, August 12, Monday, August 18, and Thursday, August 21.
The unrest comes after workers at the firm were offered a pay rise of 3.3%—although the company says it offered 3.9%
The action will affect bus depots in Sunderland, South Shields and Newcastle.
The Unite union says the hourly pay for drivers is £15.01 an hour-well below the pay of those doing the same job in the North West.
