MARION MCMULLEN DISCOVERS BESTSELLING IRISH WRITER MARIAN KEYES IS THRILLED TO SEE HER TALES OF FIVE DUBLIN SISTERS FINALLY ON TV AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

This was worth waiting for

TITANIC star Kate Winslet, Sandra Bullock and even former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham have been among the names put forward over the years to star as one of the main characters from Marian Keyes popular books about the five Walsh sisters.

The celebrated Irish author and global bestseller says: "The first time Rachel's Holiday was optioned was 27 years ago, and Titanic had just come out, and it was a big US studio involved. Kate Winslet was in the news a lot at the time and she was the person they wanted because she was so current.

"I remember feeling a bit shook by this, because I just wanted an Irish person, but then they moved from her to Sandra Bullock and then times moved on. Another producer picked up Rachel's Holiday, and they wanted Victoria Beckham to play Rachel!" New TV drama the Walsh Sisters features the chaotic, dysfunctional but deeply lovable Walsh family of five sisters, a devout mother and a bemused father.

Set in their Dublin hometown, the drama follows Anna (Louisa Harland), Rachel (Caroline Menton), Maggie (Stefanie Preissner), Claire (Danielle Galligan) and Helen (Máiréad Tyers) as they navigate the peaks and troughs of their 20s and 30s.

Marian says: "I am so thrilled with the cast. It feels to me like this was worth waiting for. Everyone is brilliant.
