Coventry come back to restore six-point lead at the summit
Sunday Sun UK
|January 18, 2026
COVENTRY reestablished their six-point lead over Middlesbrough at the top of the Championship with a 2-1 win over Leicester City.
-
‘The Foxes had scored first through Jordan James after just 10 minutes. But Frank Lampard’s side emerged after the break to level through Ellis Simms on 47 minutes before Haji Wright struck in the closing minute to force victory.
Coventry's lead at the top had been pegged back in recent weeks and James’ strike had nerves jangling further.
‘The Foxes ought to have doubled their advantage five minutes later when De Cordova-Reid’s miscued effort, from James’ cross, was tipped over by Carl Rushworth.
Coventry equalised 90 seconds after the break as Jack Rudoni drove a low cross-shot into the six-yard box and the ball found its way into the net via the back of Simms’ leg.
