US resident facing October 7 charges

A US resident is accused of taking part in Hamas's October 7 attack.

Restaurant worker Mahmoud Amin Ya'qub al-Muhtadi, 33, armed himself and joined paramilitaries that fought alongside Hamas in the 2023 attack on Israel, in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostages, US prosecutors claim.

A year later, Mr al-Muhtadi allegedly travelled to the US on a fraudulent visa, became a permanent resident and eventually settled in Lafayette, Louisiana.
