A MIDLAND woman who had a double mastectomy at just 27 has hailed telly star Kara Tointon for opening up about her own op.

Sally Chapman, of Leicester, discovered she was a higher risk of breast cancer when she was just 24, after losing nine women in her family to cancer.

Three years later, performing arts maestro Sally decided to undergo surgery to cut her own risk from the BRCA2 gene.

And now, a decade after her own op, the mum-of-two has hailed EastEnders' actor Kara Tointon, who has also had a double mastectomy and is helping to spread the word and inspiring others to get screened.

"It's not always something you can connect with until it happens to you, or someone you know, so it's important when people like Kara talk about it," said Sally.
