CHEF TO SERVE UP CASH FOR HOSPITAL CLOSE TO HIS HEART
Sunday Mercury
|April 27, 2025
TOP Birmingham chef who had his left arm amputated after he suffered an electric shock in his kitchen is fundraising for the hospital that helped him recover.

Matt Davies, from Yardley Wood, underwent more than 70 operations after the accident, which he said left his arm “blown to pieces”.
Dad-of-three Matt, 57, told how he spent three weeks at the QE undergoing surgeries to save and reconstruct his arm after he was shocked by 32 amps of electricity in October 2017.
The limb was amputated below the elbow a year ago following an infection.
Now, Matt is supporting the Great Brummie Menu, featuring a host of big-name chefs, in aid of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham charity and Hospitality Action, which supports those working in the industry facing tough times.
The five-course tasting menu will be served at University College Birmingham on May 20.
Matt, who now lives in Marston, between Stafford and Stone, was a Michelin listed chef responsible for an 80-strong group of staff working across six restaurants in Staffordshire when the accident happened as he was preparing lunch service.
