Baggies director can see window of opportunity
Sunday Mercury
|July 06, 2025
WEST Bromwich Albion kickstarted their summer transfer window with the signing of Nat Phillips from Liverpool - but that’s far from the last bit of action fans will witness between now and the beginning of September, when the deadline arrives.
Albion bid farewell to Semi Ajayi, Grady Diangana and John Swift at the end of last season, while loanees Mason Holgate, Adam Armstrong and Will Lankshear returned to their parent clubs, so while Phillips’ arrival is a welcome start, there remain plenty of gaps throughout the squad inherited by Ryan Mason (RN).
Here is what the new boss and sporting director Andrew Nestor (AN) have said about the club's summer plans.
AN: Our squad planning is always ongoing. We're always looking windows ahead, so after last season we knew what our most important needs were to improve the squad. As we spoke with Ryan, we got a sense for how he would set up our squad - there was alignment. We're well aligned on our players and the targets in the transfer window.
Ryan's input is very important. There are a number of different influences that go into that process.
How much business do you envisage the club having to do?
