McInnes always believed his cool Killie stars would steer clear of trouble

- DEREK MCINNES

DEREK MCINNES hailed the calmness in his side amid anxiety as Kilmarnock sealed safety in the Premiership.

The Rugby Park troops secured their top-flight status with a thrilling triumph over Dundee.

Danny Armstrong's first-half penalty had them ahead but they were hauled back by a Lyall Cameron leveller.

However, an instant response from Bruce Anderson and a late Robbie Deas header sealed the deal.

Cameron hit a second at the death for the Dark Blues but they couldn't didn't deny Killie.

McInnes' men made it four wins out of five and three straight wins since the split, superbly dealing with the stress of the situation.

The boss beamed: “The question was asked of us.

“The beauty is I've worked with a lot of these players for years now. So I knew we had it in the building.

“When that's tested, you need to remain positive and calm. With the four wins we've had, with three clean sheets in the four previous games.
