When 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar goes missing from Camp Emerson in the Adirondacks, the ripples stretch across the lake into the past.

Barbara isn’t just any camper. She's the only child of the powerful Van Laar family, who founded and still own the camp.

Her disappearance stirs panic, especially in counsellor Louise, who was distracted the night before.
