Brendan Rodgers was removed from the manager's office, Dermot Desmond called O'Neill as he was having a coffee with his wife on London’ King’s Road and invited him to take interim charge of the team.

After Desmond had toppled Nancy, Dermot called Martin when he was having a coffee with an old pal of mine in Glasgow's East End.

Martin has to stop drinking coffee - or else block Desmond’s number on his phone.

One is full of caffeine and the other one is synonymous with chaos.

O'Neill's direct remit is to rectify the damage caused by areckless appointee who lasted 33 destructive days in a job for which he was neither suited nor qualified.

A decision which can be seen, retrospectively, as a dereliction of duty and a betrayal of the Celtic support by whoever sanctioned the move for the Frenchman in the first place.

Nancy's loss of 12 league points against Hearts, Dundee United, Motherwell and Rangers effectively amounted to the self-inflicted sabotage of Celtics season in the Premiership title race.

It now falls to O'Neill to deny that observation is accurate.
