Miller reckons the tough Canadian will be fired up for Rangers

- BY FRASER WILSON

THE Rangers group chat on Colin Miller's phone began to ping almost immediately after Derek Cornelius’ deadline-day loan switch to Ibrox.

It came to life again after the Marseille defender pinged one in from 25 yards for Canada against Wales on Tuesday night.

It's not a bad collection of pals to be fair.

Ally McCoist, Ian Durrant, Derek Ferguson - they'd all be welcome additions to Russell Martin's underperforming side right now if only they were still in their prime.

But they all wanted to know one thing - whether Canadian Cornelius was made of the right stuff to help turn round their beloved clubs fortunes.

Former Gers defender Miller worked with the 27-year-old when he first broke into the full Canada squad seven years ago.

As part of John Herdman's coaching setup with the Canucks he clearly remembers the kid that had been named Canada's 2018 Youth International of the Year stepping up to the top team.

Miller's not naive enough to guarantee anyone will be a success in the Ibrox pressure cooker.

But one assurance he was comfortable to offer to his old pals is that Cornelius does possess one prerequisite ... Canadian steel.

Even that - and his wand of a left foot - wasn't enough to save Gers from a 2-0 home loss against Hearts yesterday, when Cornelius made his debut as a second-half sub.
