£13k for a room at the Games? They can take a running jump

VISITORS from around the world will face sky-high prices for accommodation at next year's Commonwealth Games - with one leading hotel demanding a minimum £13,000 per stay.

Rooms in Glasgow will be at a premium next summer due to the decision to place 3000 athletes in hotels around the city, many close to their competition venue.

Unlike 2014, there will be no Athletes Village to accommodate them as this temporary housing was later allocated to social tenants and private buyers.

Booking inquiries show international hotel group Radisson has introduced a minimum booking period of 20 nights at its flagship Radisson Blu in the city centre next July and August, when the Games take place.

Priced at £664 per night, the booking for two people works out at £13,280 for a double room. This July, the same 20-night booking would cost just £3828, almost £10,000 less.
