Gamini Dissanayake and ACC's push against the old firm

Most of the founding fathers of the Asian Cricket Council have walked back to the pavilion, but a few of those trailblazers are still very much in the game.

Some may not be operating on the international stage, yet they continue to pull the strings at club level with aplomb. Among them is Nuzki Mohammad, one of the visionaries who joined hands with the late Gamini Dissanayake to lay the foundations of the ACC.

Dissanayake, a colossus of his time, packed more runs into a short innings than most would in a marathon career. It remains a cruel twist of fate that he was cut down in his prime. He served as Vice-President of the fledgling ACC, formed under the watchful eye of N. K. Salve, the influential Cabinet Minister in Indira Gandhi's government.
