US quick to appoint new pro-British ambassador

THE SPECIAL Relationship is back at the top of Washington's agenda, with a pro-British Reaganite banker arriving in London to serve as America's new UK ambassador.
Warren A Stephens, 68, has stepped into the Court of St James's five months after President Donald Trump took office, the fastest such posting in 35 years, in sharp contrast to Joe Biden's 18-month delay.
A lifelong admirer of former president Ronald Reagan and ex-prime minister Margaret Thatcher, he is expected to take a firm pro-British, pro-trade approach.
Estimated to be worth £3billion, he built his fortune through decades at the helm of Stephens Inc, an Arkansas-based investment firm founded by his grandfather in the Great Depression.
And his arrival reflects a broader shift in President Trump's approach to Europe, signalled after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Pope's funeral.
