THE “most iconic dish” ever created by Tesco can be ordered online for the festive season from Tuesday.

Innovative chefs at the supermarket giant spent five months perfecting a restaurant-quality beef wellington that is simple to cook at home.

A mature fillet wrapped in a herb crepe with a layer of mushroom, shallot and Madeira wine duxelles, then encased in puff pastry, it is designed to be a showstopper for any occasion.

The news is timely, as research has shown 57% of people who enjoy dining out at restaurants are going to them less often now than last year.

They cite cost, a preference to eat in the comfort of their own home and saying that they can whip up better dishes themselves as the key reasons behind this decline.
