The 'real Downton' salutes the sacrifice of a nation

THE real Downton Abbey will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in style.
Visitors to Highclere Castle will be transported back to the 1940s, with live performances, military talks, vintage car displays and stories from veterans. And a ceremonial flyover is also planned.
The Hampshire castle was the setting for the hit ITV period drama and three spin-off films, with the last - The Grand Finale - being released on September 12.
Called "A Weekend to Remember", the commemoration will be held on September 6-7, with a preview evening the day before.
Fiona, the Countess of Carnarvon, who lives at Highclere with husband George, said she also hopes children sent there as evacuees during the war will attend.
