Priti: Support me to crack down on yobs

HOME Secretary Priti Patel is to urge MPs to reject "mob rule" and support a crackdown on anti-social and disruptive protesters who bring chaos to the streets.

Ms Patel will condemn "a supremely selfish minority" in a bid to rally support for the Government's Public Order Bill, which contains measures to take on groups such as Extinction Rebellion, Insulate Britain and Just Stop Oil.

She will tell the Commons tomorrow: "I will not let anti-social individuals keep causing misery and chaos for others." The Government is launching a second attempt to introduce tough new laws after the House of Lords rejected similar proposals earlier this year.

Ministers had to back down and remove the measures from the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act, following a lengthy battle with peers.

Just Stop Oil activists have carried out a series of blockades of fuel terminals in south-east England and the Midlands, and tied themselves to goalposts at football matches. More than 1,000 arrests have  been made, with their actions blamed for fuel shortages.
