The first passports issued in the name of King Charles III will appear this summer.
For the first time in generations, passports will refer to “His” – and not “Her” – “Britannic Majesty”.
The arrival of the new dark blue travel document will be an iconic moment for the country.
Immigration minister Robert Jenrick told MPs: “The changes will be implemented in a phased way from this summer.
“British passports issued in the name of Her Majesty the Queen will continue to remain valid travel documents until their expiry date.”
The King overseas however does not require one as they are issued in the head of state’s name.
