It's Publo Picasso as artists turn boozers into galleries

ARTISTS are brushing off galleries in favour of pubs to exhibit their work, in a move that may help to revitalise battling boozers and create much wider interest in art.

The switch is happening as galleries face difficulties amid falling visitor numbers, which are still down since Covid.

Larger, world-famous, sites such as the Tate Modern had 4.6 million visitors last year - 1.5 million fewer than in 2019. The National Gallery saw a fall of 47% in the same period, according to The Art Newspaper amounting to 2.8 million fewer visitors.

Meanwhile, the cost-of-living crisis is taking its toll on smaller enterprises.
