But following a summer of frustration at Selhurst Park, the elation of May’s historic FA Cup triumph has swiftly subsided.

So much so the humble Austrian sheepishly boarded an Elizabeth Line train in London on Thursday and somehow went unnoticed. When asked if he’d grasped the impact of his side’s cup win on the local community, Glasner revealed: “Yesterday we had the Premier League managers’ meeting at Stockley Park.

“I went on the Tube and there was no selfie, no autograph so for me that was a positive. Everybody looks into their phone — nobody looks at who is next to them.”

Today’s Community Shield clash with Liverpool is Palace’s third trip across the capital to Wembley in just five months.
