Can peace talks end bloody US-Iran war?

FACE-to-face negotiations between the US and Iran have begun in Pakistan, after Israeli strikes in Lebanon threatened the fragile two-week ceasefire agreed last week.
US Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf and foreign minister Abbas Araghchi.
Pakistan’s army chief, mediating, was also in the room in Islamabad.
Iran’s state-run news agency said the three-party talks started yesterday after their preconditions, including a reduction in the strikes against Iranian-backed Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, were met.
Israel’s insistence that the ceasefire in Iran does not include a pause in its fighting with Hezbollah had threatened to sink last week’s deal. On the day the truce was announced, Israeli strikes killed more than 300 people.
