After all, the Tottenham midfielder, dropped last weekend for posting footage of himself apparently inhaling laughing gas, had never hit the back of the net in two seasons with the North Londoners.

Yet, you would never have guessed it in the 14th minute yesterday when he took aim from 18 yards and, first-time, leathered a curling thunderbolt in off the bar.

Talk about repaying the manager’s faith for recalling him. Talk about a spectacular way to break a 56-game goal drought for the club.

With one lethal swing of the foot, Bissouma achieved all of that – and put Ange Postecoglou’s troops on the road to a first victory of the campaign.

But as delighted as he was with Bissouma’s display, Spurs boss Postecoglou is adamant staying disciplined – on and off the pitch – is the key.

The Aussie, whose side have four points from a possible six, said: “I wasn’t surprised by his goal. We know he’s a good footballer. We know he has that ability to do something special.
